WHY?

Support local, and know you are supporting: your community,
your health, and your local ecosystem. It's The Fertile Burb!

Our bouquet share has evolved and grown thanks to our wonderful members who have supported us passionately. I dreamed of expanding our production in order to provide to our local community directly, and not just events, but the unique experience of locally and sustainably grown blooms that were also beautiful. Well here we are, and it's been a blast thus far!  Unique varieties that are not commonly seen in floral design and their ethereal beauty is what makes them all the more special. Flowers speak to our hearts and can take a bad day and turn it into a good one and an average day into a magical one.

Your commitment to us for our spring and fall mixed bouquet shares, and now even winter tulip shares, allows us to make the necessary investments to grow all the blooms. Our seasonal shares, Blooms in the Burbs, is our version of a CSA (community supported agriculture). It supports our little farm with all its needs from the seeds to the compost. We appreciate your support!

WHAT YOU GET

What size paper wrapped bouquet?

Winter Tulip Shares - we offer both a ten or twenty-stem tulip bunch option.

Spring & Fall Shares - Waste not, want not! We use our seasonal shares to spread the love of what is being harvested out of the gardens. What this means is if we have it you get it. A share is the best way for you to get the best in-season blooms without the worry of per stem prices. On average, our shares will include at least 20 stems but can be as many as 80 stems.

How many Bouquets?

Each season is a bit unique. Depending on how the previous season and the weather have been acting we determine how many total weeks we believe the field will be able to produce the quality of blooms we expect for each season. Currently, Blooms in the Burbs shares are 5 bi-weekly bouquets per season.

WHICH FLOWERS

Eek there are so many. But I will do my best to touch on a few. Each variety, though planned, is subject to the whims of nature. Check out our complete list of blooms available by season. Colors will be harvested and bunched according to “grower’s choice” but rest assured that we only grow the most beautiful colors available!

*Note: In the event of crop failure or shortage, we will source blooms directly from other Virginia flower growers, who share our standards of top quality and sustainable growing practices.

Spring

Spring time I rely heavily on bulb crops; narcissus, tulips, ranunculus, anemones, peonies, and irises; if they come on before July. Fall planted annuals are also amazing during spring; Iceland poppies, sweet peas, fluffy snapdragons plus numerous filler flowers.

Summer

Even though I do not offer a summer share; love being with my kids during summer break while they are still home, the summer annuals make their way into both the end of the spring season and the beginning of the fall season. These flowers are mostly our annuals which include, zinnias, sunflowers, strawflowers, and some of my favorites; ornimental seed pods.

Fall

Fall is the explosion of dahlia season. We rely heavy on roughly 300 dahlia plants. but another few fun fall blooms are lisianthus, rudbeckia and scented geraniums.
