It never really ends does it. It just shifts.

Today wrapped up our very last Blooms in the Burbs share of the year. The final week of weekly bouquets. The field offering her last handfuls before settling into a slower rhythm. I know I said the season was over this weekend, but really the season never ends. It just changes shape.

Because now The Club begins.

The dahlias might be finished, but the farm is not. The work is not. The beauty is not. Fall flowers are still coming in for our Club members. The beds are being cleared and replanted. The tunnels shift into their winter tempo. Seeds are sprouting. Plans are already unfolding for spring from under the soil.

But today did feel like a moment.
The closing of the weekly bouquet rhythm.
The field and I taking one deep breath at the same time.

Bloom in the Burbs becomes The Club.
Same heart. New flow. More room to savor.
Flowers that follow real seasons.
Flowers that meet your life rather than asking your life to meet a schedule.

The Club is for those who want to be part of the growing year, not just the bouquet. For those who love knowing what is waking, what is lingering, what is fading, and what is quietly preparing for the next beginning.

We will keep harvesting.
We will keep designing.
We will keep growing.
Just with a little more intention. A little more breath.

Today marks the end of our wedding season. And wow… what a way to close it out. This week was long in the way only the last week of the season can be. Our biggest wedding of the year, full of all the moving parts, all the beauty, all the emotions. I am tired in my bones and also so unbelievably grateful.

Grateful for every couple who trusted us. Grateful for every family who welcomed us in. Grateful for every person who said, “Yes, we trust the flowers to be what they are that week.” When you work only with locally grown flowers, you have to let the season lead. You have to trust that what is blooming will be exactly what is meant to tell the story of that day. And every single one of our couples leaned into that with us this year. That is not small. That is everything.

Ending the season with a wedding that showed off the full strength and beauty of fall felt fitting. Bold color, big texture, that end of season richness you can only get right before the frost. And then, two nights ago, the frost came. A true killing frost. The dahlias are finished. The field looks different now.

It is always a bittersweet moment but also a reminder. The flowers know when it is time to rest. So do we.

Now we clean up the bits scattered everywhere from months of movement. We tuck beds in. We plant what will become spring. We rest. We remember who we are outside of the whirlwind.

I haven’t been posting much lately — it’s been pure chaos over here. The good kind, the kind that means things are growing, moving, and blooming faster than I can keep up.

I have so many beautiful weddings to share from this fall (and a few from spring that never made it to the feed), but they’ll have to wait. We’ve got two more full wedding weeks left in our 2025 season, and honestly, I’m on pins and needles for my biggest wedding yet in just two weeks.

I can’t lie, I’ll be jumping for joy when I can finally call season 2025 wrapped. Our fall plugs and corms haven’t even made it into the ground yet because, well… time and space are not on my side. Normally by now we’ve flipped almost everything to start the big fall bed turnover for next spring, but we’re still waiting on blooms that will be used in the next couple of weeks.

It’s all coming together, and I can’t wait to share more once the dust (and petals) settle. For now, here’s a little pretty from this week, and a big shoutout to my girl @snakehillsupperclub at @rustmanorhouse . She always makes me feel seen and so grateful to call her a friend in this wild vendor world.

They say “go local” when import tariffs hit. But let me tell you, local flower farms aren’t immune.

In the past week alone, I’ve paid six hundred dollars in tariffs on corms and bulbs for next spring. That’s on top of the fact that bulbs and corms such as tulips, anemones, and ranunculus are already up about fifteen percent over last year, and last year was up too. These increases don’t magically stop at country lines.

Even seeds are largely imported, and because we don’t grow them at scale in this country, they’ll be hit too. But for now, the biggest impact is showing in the specialty spring crops, the very flowers that define that wow season.

Seeing those ranunculus heads in the garden and the delicate anemone close ups in those videos makes me more aware than ever that beauty doesn’t come free. The cost, the risk, the timing, it all stacks up.

So yes, I believe in local. It’s all I work with. But believing in it doesn’t erase the reality that we’re being squeezed too. If you think local equals cheaper in this moment, you’re underestimating what’s happening behind the scenes.

We’re holding the line, but it’s not without strain. Your support, awareness, and respect for what local means today go further than you might think.

And while I may grow most of what you see here, there are local farms I rely on that are taking the same hits and holding the line right alongside me. Some I lean on almost every week, others only when I need that perfect finishing touch. But all of them make what is happening here possible.

Saturday’s wedding reminded me why I love this work so much. We spend months getting to know our couples, learning who they are, dreaming up their florals, and shaping the feeling of their day. But when the day finally comes, we’re not in the spotlight. We’re the quiet ones in the wings, the unseen fairies setting each scene, making sure every path they walk feels touched by a little magic.

I always care deeply about the moment I hand the bouquet to the bride. It’s the one connection where all the thought and care meets the person it was meant for. But sometimes the timeline just doesn’t allow it, and Saturday was one of those times. I didn’t get to see her face when she first saw the bouquet I spent five hours building the day before, an ombré cascade of color, large and lush and perfectly her.

Later though, I caught a glimpse. A bridesmaid leaned in, said something, and the bride gestured toward the bouquet, explaining something with her hands. I’ll never know what they said, but that small moment said everything. The bouquet had found its story.

And that’s it for me. Being in the background, creating moments people never even knew to dream of, that’s exactly where I want to be.

I didn’t offer flowers this year because we had an A La Carte wedding to be delivered in DC Saturday morning that kept me plenty busy. But when your daughter’s best friends send the group text asking for bouquets, of course I said yes. Call me the farmer florist mom, showing up with blooms even when it is not officially on the menu.

These bouquets were built around dahlias, the queens of late summer and fall. Big, bold, and perfectly in season.

They weren’t headed to the dance itself, but they still wanted that little something extra to mark the night, and honestly, that made it even sweeter.

These are the kinds of requests I’ll always find time for. Flowers don’t have to wait for the “big event” — sometimes they just make an already special day a little more memorable.
